Clean Albums?

It's the Hip-Hop music you love, but edited so you can listen to it around your kids or your parents. This blog focuses on the underground scene, since the artists usually don't release a clean version like the big acts do. I've also included old albums that either don't have clean versions, or the clean version is very poorly done. I edit the music myself (and do a good freaking job), which means that most of this stuff you can't get ANYWHERE else.

Fe|t 2 - A Tr*bute to L*sa Bonnet

Second release by S|ug and Mur$, this time produced by Ant. Better than the first, in my opinion.

Wu-T@ng Meets the Indie Cu|ture (clean)

Very interesting and very enjoyable collaboration between Wu-affiliates and underground icons.

Cunn*inLyngu*sts - Str@nge J0urney Volumes One & Two

CL's two latest releases - I've edited what I think are the best songs from both albums and compiled them. As, usual incredible production by Kn0.

Dead Links!

Apparently, a lot of these download links are dead. Let me know if there's an album you want - use the comment box ("Cbox") on the right - and I'll help you out.

H*eroglyphics - Full C*rcle (clean)

This is the second release by underground super-group, H*eroglyph*cs. There is a clean promo version of this somewhere, but their editing was poorly done, so enjoy this high-quality Hip-Hop Decaf exclusive.

Atm0sphere - Sad C|own B@d Dub (clean)

I love this album! They sold it while on tour and, in my opinion, it's on a completely different level than "0vercast!," their previous release. Definitely the only clean version of this bad boy.

The D.0.C. - No 0ne Can D0 It Bett3r (clean)

Fantastic production by Hip-Hop's most famous doctor coupled with dope lyrics and tight delivery by the D.0.C. If you don't have it, you are missing out.
Don't stop: Git it, git it!

Note: A couple of tracks did not have enough of the blank instrumental I need to make a seamless edit, so they contain "back-masking" instead. Everything is everything.

C-R@yz Wa|z- Ra\/ip0ps (clean)

This guy is amazing! After I heard his verse on "Wu-T@ng Meets the Indi3 Cu|ture," I had to check out some of his solo work. Incredible MC.

B|ue Scho|ars - 0of! EP (clean)

The latest release from a local Northwest favorite.

Qwe| & K*p Ki||igan - The N3w W*ne (clean)

Qw3l is one of these prolific MC's that I had never taken the time to listen to, despite his 400 albums. It turns out the man can spit. Here's a recent (but not the most recent) release of his.

Who reads this blog?

I'm debating whether or not to continue the blog. I have no way of knowing who, if anyone, is reading this blog, other than the use of comments (of which there are typically none). If there is a readership, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll probably just find another way to waste my spare time. Peace.

Wu-T@ng Cl@n - 36 Ch@mbers (clean)

I don't need to tell you how monumental this album is. There is an official clean version of this somewhere, but as I understand it, the record is riddled with goofy sound effects and other distracting garbage. So enjoy my edit of the classic.

The Chichar0nes - When P*gs Fly (clean)

This is a collaboration between S|eep of 0ldominion and J0sh Mart*nez (of J0sh Mart*nez): some good ol' fashioned feel-good hip-hop music. Enjoy!

Unique album - tracks 3, 12, and 15 are particularly ill.

L0Deck & 0mega 0ne - P0stcards fr0m the Third R0ck (clean)

I really like the production on this one. Dizzy isn't the planet's greatest MC, but he has an incredible voice that really compliments 0mega 0ne's beats.
Edited by yours truly. Enjoy.

Cunn*nLyngu*sts - Will R@p F0r Food (clean)

This is CL's debut album and it's amazing! There are serious tracks and light-hearted tracks, but they're all excellent (except for #7). Check out "Thugged 0ut Since Cub Sc0uts" - it's hilarious! As usual, this is the only clean version of this album anywhere.

Every Hip-Hop fan needs this album. Period. Beats, lyrics, flow, variety, fun - it's got it all.

Emin3m - The Mar$hall Math3rs LP (clean - FOR REAL this time)

THIS IS NOT THE VERSION YOU ALREADY HAVE!

It's all done!
As I said before, the retail "clean" version of this album that you may have heard is riddled with B-words, A-words, and Sh-words, and is missing "Kim" (which I feel is a brilliant track). Also, they took out words that aren't even vulgar.
So this version has solved those problems. I made this for my own listening pleasure, but would like to share it with you, since I know there's an interest.
Thank you for reading the blog - I would love to hear your comments.

M*ghty Underd0gs - Dr0ppin Sc*ence Fict*on (clean)

In my opinion, this is the best project the G*ft of G@b has been involved in since "N*a," thanks to great concepts and tight beats by He@dnodic. Edited by me.

D3ltr0n 3O3O (clean)

As promised, here's the only clean version of this Hip-Hop classic. With D@n the Aut0m@tor's beats, K*d K0ala's scratches, and D3l's rhymes, this album could come out 25 years from now and still be ahead of its time. I can't wait for D3ltr0n Ev3nt II. Enjoy!

How To Edit A Song With Seamless Perfection

Have you ever heard an edited version of a song where all the bad words are played backwards and you have to stop bobbing your head because the beat gets all messed up? Or when they take out a word like "weed" or "gat" but leave in the B-word or the A-word? Or when there's some goofy sound effect like a car horn instead of the bad word? Well, I have, and it annoys the living [car horn] out of me.

So here's how you can create a clean version of any song that sounds professionally done and never loses a beat.

1) Get a multi-track audio program (like Ad0be Auditi0n).

2) Open your MP3 file.

3) Find your swear word, and split it off.

4) Delete it or mute it.

5) Find an instrumental part in the song (a few bars within the song that have no vocals - usually at the beginning or end of the song).

6) Make a copy of it.

7) Line up your instrumental segment with your swear word (look at the peaks in the audio wave – lining up the snares is the easiest).

8) Fade your main track out, then back in around the swear word.

9) Fade your instrumental track in, then back out around the swear word.

10) Locate and edit the rest of your unwanted swear words.

11) Listen to it to see how it turned out.

12) Save your file. (You can save immediately as an MP3. I save it as a WAV, then convert it to a high quality MP3 using a program, such as R@zor L@me).

13) Voila! Seamless editing with no backwards beats or silly sound effects.

And that's how it's done.

Note: If you have the instrumental version of a song, it saves a lot of trouble. If the song doesn't have an instrumental portion, using a part where there's scratching sounds great too. Sometimes you have to get creative, and sometimes it's a lost cause. Play around and see what works. After a few tries, you'll be able to bang one out in just a few minutes.

And here's the finished product:

Atm0sph3re - L|_|cy F()rd (clean)

I'll always credit this album as my first introduction to independent Hip-Hop music. $lug raps about life in a way that I had never heard on a record before. Antoine and Blaine would definitely give this two snaps up with a twist. Fantastic CD - and no clean version available anywhere but here!

I'd love to hear your comments if you click here to git it, git it.

C@ge - H3ll'$ W*nter (clean)

So this guy fascinates me - read his bio on Wikipedia (click here) to see why. I heard Emin3m diss him on a few tracks, which got me curious. So I picked up this record and it turns out it's tight. Enough so that I took the time to edit it. Enjoy.

A3sop R()ck - L@bor D@ys (clean)

This album is so good it's sickening. The first time I heard this, I was blown away! You'll know what I'm talking about after listening to it. Again, I'm pretty sure no clean version was ever released, so here's another Hip-Hop Decaf exclusive. Probably.

Click here to Git it, git it!

Note: Songs 3 and 7 didn't have enough plain instrumental for me to make A+ quality edits, but I did my best. The rest are 10/10.

N()n-Pr()phets - H()pe (clean)

This is an excellent collaboration between underground giant S@ge Fr@ncis and producer Jo3 Be@ts. In my opinion, it's one of the best Hip-Hop albums of all time (big words, I know). This is another exclusive edit that does not exist ANYWHERE but right here.

Cunn*nLyngu*sts - @ Piece of Str@nge (clean)

From start to finish, this is an excellent album. Kno's production is outstanding and the storyline is fluid. Since I had the instrumentals, I was able to make a perfect edit I can play around my kids. As far as I know, this is the ONLY clean version of this album on the planet. Enjoy!
